Why we Exist

The American Floor Safety Alliance (AFSA) exists to bring credibility to an industry crowded with claims but short on proof. We define what “safe flooring” actually means. Our work centers on scientifically validated traction testing, with the British Pendulum as our primary standard and supporting instruments used for long-term performance evaluation.

AFSA is more than a testing group. We are a national authority that certifies products, materials, installers, and testing professionals. Manufacturers rely on us to verify real slip resistance. Property owners and risk managers use our evaluations to reduce liability. Contractors use AFSA standards to prove their work meets traction requirements.

Our goal is simple: raise the national floor safety baseline by establishing clear methods, transparent data, and trustworthy certification. When a surface, product, or professional carries the AFSA mark, it signals measurable traction and verified safety — not marketing language.

AFSA is building the go-to network for anyone who needs reliable answers about slip resistance and wants confidence backed by science, not opinion.

consider joining us

Work with us to raise the national standard for real floor safety. We’re building an alliance of pendulum-equipped traction testers who want their work grounded in validated methods and transparent data.

If you rely on devices with no published standards or proven precision, this isn’t the place for you. AFSA is for professionals committed to accurate testing, honest reporting, and reducing preventable slip-and-fall incidents — not those looking to defend bad data for a fee.
